RC Pune Sunrise helped create a Rotary Community Corps club at Keshavgaon near Bakori village. Chandrakant Govind Waraghade will be the point of contact. His team will consist of 10 members who will be looking after our projects in the area. His team consists of: Sandeep Dhafad Dhanraj Warghade Dharmaraj Botre Dhanashree Warghade Maya Warghade Badu Gyaneshwar Warghade Rajendra Warghade Dattatre Gulam Warghade Sarjayrao Kute Prakash Kute The projects include: rainwater harvesting, tree plantation (planting 500,000 trees of 4ft height each), water tankers and sprinklers (60,000 litres given), and drip irrigation Community assessment: We had a community meeting with the Gram Panchayat head. We understood that the village had a lot of potential. What was missing was the ability to create a concerted effort from all members of the community. The main issue was around the abundance of land not being used as farm land. To solve this problem, we thought about the solutions that could be implemented. Once this is done, the village can easily become a sustainable organization which can provide a regular water supply for their plants/crops and thrive as an agricultural business for the farmers in the community. Project impact: In conjunction with the local authorities, we were able to raise funding to donate 4 feet tall trees to the people of Bakori village. What started off as a small effort of 2000 trees, it has now become a project which will implement 500,000 trees in different phases. These trees will not only provide much needed cleaner air, but will also add to the aesthetic of the place. In addition, we donated pipes that would give the farmers the ability to do drip irrigation. This method conserves water and ensures that it is reached directly to the root of the plants/crops that need them. Lastly, we are in the process of creating 'kunds' or rainwater harvesting pits that would allow storage of water and distribution of it to its desired destination. Sustainability: To promote sustainability, we decided to involve the local leadership. Mr. Chandrakant Waghare was instated as the Rotary Community Corps head for Bakori village. Him, and his team of 12 people will look after all the projects, the funding needed for all the activities that have begun, track the progress and ensure that the village becomes sustainable.
